About
Thanks for checking my blog out. I’m Sarah, and it’s a pleasure to have you here.
I grew up in the US Midwest, but I’ve spent most of my adult years living, working, and traveling in other parts of the world. I’m not really a country counter, but seeing as a number seems to be valued for establishing “street cred” I’ll note that I’ve crossed the 70 threshold. These days I live as a digital nomad and do not maintain a fixed residential base anywhere. My average stay in a country can last anywhere from a few days to two or three months.
What makes me tick? I’ve never been someone who was a great consumer or driven by a need for “stuff,” but the older and wiser (?) I get, the more I have embraced minimalism. This has extended beyond just what I own to how I lead my life on a day-to-day basis. I’m also a vegan of many years, a self-proclaimed neophile and ambivert, a devout feminist, an avid solo (slow) traveler, and a proponent of moustachianism and financial independence/retiring early (FIRE). Some of the other issues I’m interested in include sustainability, languages and linguistics, decision-making, simplicity, finding your tribe, and multiculturalism.
If you’re dying to know my more traditional credentials, I have a background in environmental policy, international affairs, English teaching, academic management, editing, and writing. On the formal education front I have an undergraduate degree in political science and master’s degrees in both international affairs and English.
ABOUT THIS BLOG
“So where are you now?” is a question I get nearly every time I talk or chat to someone who’s not nearby. It’s certainly a fair enough thing to ask, especially given how often I move around these days. However, I’ve realized that it’s a question that actually works on many levels. This is especially true for someone who has had many different chapters in her life and ideas and interests that are always growing and contracting.
This blog will explore where I am now, and in some cases where I have been. The profile above provides some clues as to topics and themes you may be seeing. Like my life, however, it’s very much a work in progress – and I am as curious as you to see how it evolves.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to interact on the site or drop me an email. In the meantime, wherever you may be in your own life just now, I hope you’re enjoying the ride!
